MIZZOU SLI BEATHA: A CELTIC MARTIAL LIFE SYSTEM
"Chan 'eil fhiss ciod an claidheamh a bhiss 'san truaill gus an tairnar e."
Twenty-five hundred years before the Buddhist monk Bodhidharma took the seeds of what became the Oriental martial arts across the Himalayas from India to China, the Celts had developed and refined systematic martial training, tactics and techniques that allowed them to spread their amazing culture across Europe, from Asia Minor to Ireland.
Their martial training schools, from the myth enshrouded warrior school of Scathach to the legendary training centers of the Red Branch and the Fianna, produced an amazing warrior class which held honor, duty, loyalty and personal responsibility above all else, and laid the foundation for the European orders of knighthood.
Sli Beatha, Irish Gaelic for "way of life", is a comprehensive system which emphasizes practical personal combat and fitness training within a program of overall personal development, based on Celtic principles and philosophy.
The study of Sli Beatha is divided into three sections:
Traenail Fisiceach: Physical Training
Forbairt Intinne: Mental Development
Fionnachtain Spioradaita: Spiritual Discovery
Whether for self-preservation, fitness, mental/physical contitioning, competition or personal growth, Sli Beatha provides students with the opportunity to pursue their particular goals and interests within a challenging yet supportive enviornment, advancing at a pace that is appropriate for the individual student.
